Lighting workshop with Grant Robertson from The Light Site

A recent lighting workshop led by Grant Robertson explored the key principles of theatrical lighting design, covering how lighting supports storytelling through visibility, mood, colour, focus and atmosphere. The session looked at practical techniques for creating different environments and emotions on stage, the use of colour and angles, lighting positions and stage coverage, as well as modern theatre technology including LED fixtures, moving lights, haze effects and lighting control systems. The workshop also discussed the overall lighting design process, from interpreting a script and collaborating with directors and designers through to plotting, focusing and technical rehearsals, with demonstrations of a range of theatre lighting equipment and ideas relevant to community theatre productions. It was a very informative session and was well attended.
